All people/children have special intellectual skills. Most times people do not recognize the gift that makes the different from others. We all have different gifts so that society as a whole can function harmoniously as we all contribute our God given intellect.
What is good parenting? Parenting in 2019 is nothing like it was in 1980/90/2000, Therefore, we have to redefine what good parenting looks like and include what are considered the “norms” today. While many things have changed, there are some aspects of parenting that remains the same.
First, let’s understand that there are many different styles of parenting, one not necessarily better than the other. We will spell out some of those different styles of parenting in a future post.
However! Many of the goals of parenting should all be the same.
1. Provide the basic needs of a child:
a. Food
b. Clothing
c. Safe environment/home
d. Teaching morals - what’s right from wrong
2. There is also the process of encouraging and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child.
a. Physical – Teaching your child about their body, how and why it’s necessary to keep it clean and healthy eating.
b. Emotional – Ensuring that your child feels loved, getting them to talk about what makes them happy and what makes them sad. Noticing if your child is struggling in an area that you may be able to define. Finding the proper help for your child if they are having difficulty. If you are not aware of where to go or what to ask, go to your child school and ask for help. It’s so important to ask for help when you are not sure. There are many people in the community that are willing to help parents when they are not sure.
c. Social – Social bonds make a community strong. Therefore, children need to learn and understand what their roles are in a social setting. Social Media is a very large part of training your child socially.
d. Intellectual- All people/children have special intellectual skills. Most times people do not recognize the gift that makes the different from others. We all have different gifts so that society as a whole can function harmoniously as we all contribute our God given intellect.
These are the parameters of Parenting. Every two weeks we will post in depth on of these topics and look for your feedback.
